Meridian Credit Union was formed in 1952 as "Ottumwa School Employees Credit Union," and was housed in the administration building of the Ottumwa Community School District. The credit union remained a tenant of the school district until June, 2006, when it moved into its current site at 1206 N. Jefferson in Ottumwa.

From its inception with 27 members in 1952, the credit union has grown to a membership of more than 2,100 with assets over $27,000,000.

Membership is open to residents of the Iowa counties of Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, Monroe, Van Buren, and Wapello; employees of  Indian Hills Community College and the Ottumwa Courier. We also welcome members of their families (spouses, children, siblings, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, aunts and uncles). Retired employees of the school district and community college are also eligible for membership.  Although our membership has gone "community," we remain strongly based with area educators.

When you deposit $25 or more and sign a membership card, you become a member of the credit union. Your membership enables you to borrow at rates generally a little lower and earn at rates a little higher than rates usually offered by other financial institutions. Member accounts are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration(NCUA), an agency of the federal government.

Our governing board consists of 9 volunteer credit union members elected by our member/owners.
